Resin Bound is a mix of resin and aggregate stone which is popular for footpaths, driveways and patios. Resin bond is created when the stone is mixed with a resin solution, creating a strong, clear and permeable finish.
Our resin bound gravel driveways and resin bound patios are hard-wearing, long-lasting and need little to no maintenance. Resin bound paving is a mix of clear, UV-stable resin and natural dried aggregate, hand-trowelled onto a solid base to give a smooth, seamless surface with no loose stone. It is the finish behind most of the modern gravel-look driveways you now see across South Dublin and North Wicklow, and it has become our most requested driveway surface.
Resin bound vs resin bonded: the two are often confused. Resin bound (what we install) mixes the stone right through the resin and is laid 15 to 18 mm thick, so the surface is porous, smooth underfoot and does not shed stone. Resin bonded scatters loose stone onto a thin layer of adhesive: it looks like gravel at first but sheds stone over time and is not permeable. For a driveway that lasts, resin bound is the right choice.
Permeable and planning-friendly: rainwater drains straight through a resin bound surface into a permeable base, so it counts as a SuDS-compliant surface. In most cases that means a new resin bound driveway to the front of a house does not need planning permission in Ireland, and you avoid puddles and ice patches in winter. Always check with your local authority if your driveway is unusually large or drains onto the public road.

Resin bound can be laid over sound existing concrete or tarmac, which often means no dig-out, less disruption and a lower price. Colours and aggregates: resin bound is available in a wide range of natural stone blends, from warm golds and buffs (the classic gravel look) through silvers, greys and charcoals to autumn mixes and near-black. We can lay contrasting borders, edging bands and even house numbers or patterns in a second colour, and we bring sample boards to every quote so you can see the blend against your brickwork and render before you decide.
Our process and timescales: 1) free site visit and written quote; 2) preparation of the base, either cleaning and priming sound existing concrete or tarmac, or excavating and laying a new compacted permeable sub-base with edging and drainage; 3) the resin and aggregate are mixed on site in a forced-action mixer and hand-trowelled to a level, seamless finish; 4) the surface is walkable in around 24 hours and takes vehicles after 48 to 72 hours depending on the weather. A typical two-car driveway on an existing base is finished in one to two days; a full dig-out normally takes three to five days.
Maintenance: a resin bound driveway needs no sealing and no re-gravelling. An occasional sweep and a rinse with a hose or a light power-wash keeps it looking new, and moss or algae in shaded spots can be treated with a mild cleaner. Because there is no loose stone, nothing gets tracked into the house or the car. With the correct base and UV-stable resin a resin bound driveway will typically last 20 years or more, and every installation we complete is covered by our 5-year guarantee.

As a rough guide only, resin bound in the Dublin and Wicklow market typically falls in the region of 60 to 100 euro per square metre supplied and laid over a sound existing base, and more where a new sub-base is required.
