Tarmacadam FAQ
I need tarmac contractors near me. What is your catchment area?
We are a Dublin tarmacadam driveways contractor. Our services are available to clients in South Dublin and North Wicklow.
How much does it cost to have a tarmac driveway laid?
The cost is calculated on the size of the driveway, the condition of the existing base and any edging, kerbing or drainage needed. As a rough guide only, tarmacadam driveways in the current Dublin market typically fall in the region of 40 to 60 euro per square metre supplied and laid, with a full dig-out and new sub-base adding to that. Larger driveways cost less per square metre. Call 087 440 3442 for a free, no-obligation written quote.
What is the difference between tarmac and asphalt? In Ireland the two words are used for the same thing: a hot bituminous mix of stone and binder laid and rolled while hot. We use a coarse base course for strength and a fine 6 mm or 10 mm wearing course on top for a smooth, dense finish, and we lay in dry conditions so the surface bonds properly.
How long does a tarmac driveway last? A properly built tarmacadam driveway with a compacted 804 sub-base, good edge restraint and falls for drainage will last 15 to 20 years. Most early failures come from a thin or poorly compacted base, not the tarmac itself, which is why we never lay over soft ground.
Tarmac or resin bound? Tarmac is the most economical surface for large areas and stands up to heavy vehicles, but it is a single black or red finish and can soften in very hot weather. Resin bound costs more per square metre but gives a permeable, seamless, coloured finish with almost no maintenance and is often laid on top of a sound tarmac base. Many of our customers choose tarmac for the driveway and resin bound for the paths and front area; we are happy to price both.
