Resin Driveways in Delgany and Kilcoole: Costs, Planning and What to Expect
Why resin bound driveways suit Delgany and Kilcoole
Delgany and Kilcoole sit between the Wicklow Mountains and the coast, a few minutes south of Greystones. Properties here range from Victorian and Edwardian cottages in Delgany village to new-build estates in Kilcoole and rural homes with long gravel drives on the Delgany side of the N11. All of them face the same weather: heavy rainfall, winter frost and salt-laden coastal wind. Resin bound surfacing handles this well because water drains straight through the stones into the sub-base, reducing puddles and ice. The UV-stable resin resists yellowing even in direct afternoon sun.
Platinum Paving Dublin’s main yard is on Ardee Street in Bray, so Delgany and Kilcoole are on our doorstep — usually a ten-minute drive. We lay resin bound driveways, paths and patios with our own crew, never subcontractors, and every job carries a five-year written guarantee. We have been paving in Wicklow and Dublin for over twenty years.
How much does a resin driveway cost in Delgany or Kilcoole?
A resin bound surface in North Wicklow typically costs between €75 and €110 per square metre for the wearing course, depending on the aggregate and the area. A full project — excavation, sub-base, edging, drainage and the resin bound finish — usually comes to between €4,500 and €9,000 for a standard two-car driveway of 40–60 m².
Many Delgany and Kilcoole driveways are longer than the Dublin average, especially on the rural roads around Bellevue and Kindlestown. A longer drive increases the area but the per-metre cost can drop because set-up and edging are a smaller share of the total.
If your current tarmac or concrete base is sound, level and draining, we can overlay it with resin bound. An overlay saves roughly a third of the cost and finishes in one to two days.

Replacing old gravel drives
Gravel driveways are common in Delgany and on the outskirts of Kilcoole, especially on longer rural drives. They look good when freshly laid but shift underfoot, scatter onto the road and need topping up every few years. Resin bound is the natural upgrade: the stones are locked in place by the resin so they do not migrate, and the surface is smooth enough for pushchairs, wheelchairs and bikes while still looking like natural stone.
We usually dig out the loose gravel, compact and level the sub-base, and lay the resin bound on top. The finished surface drains just as freely as gravel but stays put.
Do you need planning permission in Wicklow?
Resurfacing an existing driveway generally does not require planning permission under Irish planning law. If you are converting a garden or green area to hardstanding, you should check with Wicklow County Council. Permeable surfaces like resin bound are encouraged because they reduce run-off into public drains and watercourses — a priority in the Greystones–Delgany Local Area Plan.

How the job runs
A typical resin bound driveway in Delgany or Kilcoole takes three to five working days:
Day 1–2: We excavate the old surface (if needed), install a compacted Type 1 sub-base and set the edging or kerbing.
Day 3: We mix the resin and aggregate on site and trowel it to a smooth, even finish.
Day 4–5: The surface cures. You can walk on it after about 12 hours and drive on it after 24–48 hours, weather depending.
An overlay on a sound base can be finished in one to two days.
Stone colours for coastal and countryside homes
Resin bound driveways come in a wide range of natural stone colours. Popular choices in Delgany and Kilcoole include golden flint and honey quartz for cottages and period homes, silver-grey granite for modern builds, and warm toffee or bronze blends that complement the local Wicklow stone walls.
We bring stone samples to every site visit so you can compare colours against your house, walls and landscaping in natural light rather than guessing from a screen.

FAQ
Can you replace a long gravel driveway in Delgany with resin bound?
Yes. We regularly replace gravel driveways in the Delgany and Kilcoole area. The gravel is dug out, the sub-base is compacted and levelled, and the resin bound surface is laid on top. The finish drains as well as gravel but the stones stay locked in place.
How long does resin bound last in coastal weather?
A properly installed resin bound driveway lasts 20–25 years. The UV-stable resin resists sun damage and the permeable surface handles heavy rain without puddling. Salt-laden coastal air does not affect the resin or the natural stone aggregate.
Do you work in Greystones and Newcastle?
Yes. We cover all of North Wicklow from our Bray yard, including Greystones, Delgany, Kilcoole, Newcastle, Newtownmountkennedy and Kilpedder.
Is resin bound cheaper than block paving?
Resin bound is usually comparable to mid-range block paving in cost. The main saving with resin bound is time — a resin surface can be laid in a day once the base is ready, whereas block paving takes longer. Over the long term, resin bound also needs less maintenance because there are no joints for weeds to grow through.
What guarantee do you give?
Every resin bound driveway carries a five-year written guarantee covering materials and workmanship. We use our own crew on every job.
