Alongside domestic driveways, Platinum Paving Dublin surfaces car parks, yards, private roads, entrances and footpaths for commercial, industrial and residential properties across South Dublin and North Wicklow. We have the crew, equipment and experience to handle large commercial areas as well as small residential jobs, and every project gets the same own-crew, guaranteed approach. This guide explains which surface suits which commercial use, how the work can be planned around a working site, and what affects the cost.

What commercial work we do

  • Car parks and yards: new tarmacadam surfaces and resurfacing over a sound base.

  • Entrances and access roads: tarmac or block paving with kerbing, drainage channels and edge restraint for heavy traffic.

  • Footpaths, frontages and courtyards: block paving, porcelain or natural stone, and resin bound for a seamless, permeable finish.

  • Industrial units: hard-wearing tarmac yards and access areas that stand up to heavy vehicles.

The best paving for commercial properties

For car parks and yards, tarmacadam is usually the best value: it is the most economical surface for large areas, it is quick to lay, and it stands up to heavy vehicles year after year. Block paving is the better choice for entrances, drop-off areas and pedestrian zones where you want borders, markings built into the pattern and easy spot repairs. Resin bound suits footpaths, shop frontages and courtyards, where a smooth, permeable, weed-free finish helps with drainage and looks smart. Porcelain and natural stone suit terraces and outdoor seating areas.

Drainage and permeable surfaces

Large hard surfaces send a lot of rainwater somewhere. On commercial sites we set the falls, channel drains and gullies so water goes where it should, and where planning or the site needs a sustainable drainage (SuDS) approach, permeable options such as resin bound or permeable block paving over a permeable sub-base can reduce run-off. We will tell you at the survey whether your site needs either.

Keeping the site open

Most businesses cannot close their car park for a week. Larger jobs can be phased so part of the area stays open, and work can be scheduled for early mornings or weekends. We work 7am to 7pm, seven days a week. Agree access, signage and parking arrangements before work starts so staff and customers know what to expect.

What affects the cost

As a rough guide only, tarmacadam in the current Dublin market typically starts from around €40 to €60 per square metre supplied and laid, and larger areas cost less per square metre. The things that change a commercial price most are the area, the condition of the existing base and how much needs to be dug out, the expected traffic (cars or heavy goods vehicles), kerbing and drainage, line marking if needed, and access or phasing restrictions. Every commercial job is priced after a site survey and a written quote.

What is the best paving for a commercial car park?
